All in a normal day for Mawson Station.. (Part 3 of 3)
Saturday 15th January 2000

...continued

During the year the 1999 Winterer's had enjoyed watching the ABC's Seachange program so much that they formed a "Mawson Seachange fan club".

The Mawson Seachange Fan club - note the reflection on the TV screen.

When the ABC heard about the club, they arranged for the latest series to be sent down on Voyage 2. This was a risky operation since the package of tapes had to be prepared and sent before the programs actually aired on TV, so the box of tapes was put under heavy guard until it left on the Aurora.

As soon as it arrived, we unpacked the tapes and each Monday night sat down and watched two episodes. To mark the gift from the ABC, the Mawson Seachange Fan club posed outside for a photo.

Every Friday afternoon a "Friday drinks" session is held in a different location around the station. Often there is an unofficial competition to try and think of a more unusual place to hold Friday Drinks.

Some of the more unusual ones are :

Old VLV (radio room) - just before it was demolished

The Red Shed Jungle (with real plants and rainforest music
)

Nick's Fire stick juggling
