Everybody takes their work seriously - even to the level of making sure their dress is appropriate for the job. Bob Rowland (Senior summer plumber) wouldn't even think of setting of to work unless he's got the braces and the tie !

Another event that made things interesting is visitors. Apart from off the boat, we don't get very many visitors to Mawson so when a "Twin Otter" airplane was due to land at the Mawson International airport, we made sure we gave them a good welcome and rolled out the red carpet.

The Twin Otter was chartered by the Antarctic Division for aerial runway surveying and it was flying from Punta Arenas (in Argentina) to the British Halley base, then around the Antarctic coastline to Soywa (the Japanese base) then to Mawson, Davis and Casey.
