Bagging Chickens (part 2 of 2)
Friday 6th Nov 99

Sexing a chicken

There is a very subtle difference between the male & female birds and often it can be quite messy trying to find out if it is a girl or a boy ! Needless to say there is generally 3 types of penguin poo - green poo ("organic"), orange poo (Krill poo) and yellow poo (unknown origin). After the bird has been sexed it is let go to join the colony.

My war wounds from head butting an agro Chicken...

While I was catching the birds I had a close encounter with an agro chicken's beak (actually a head butt) and got a bloody scratch on my forehead. I was lucky since if I had been hit in the eye I could have been in a lot of trouble!
Next time I will wear goggles :-)

The Agro Chicken

After we let this bird go, it stayed around about 4 metres from our quad's. This is quite rare for a bird to hang around - normally they just scoot away as fast as they can. This meant that the bird was being very aggressive (as some penguins are), but it allowed me to get some good closeup photographs.

In case you were wondering what a penguin foot looks like - well wonder no more :-)

Snow prints are a good indicator of the presence of agro chickens

Nutrious Chicken Hunting Food!

And you may ask "What do you eat while you are catching chickens ??"... Tim Tams of course !

Well, there you have it... A good afternoon's chicken hunting !

Cheers
Kym
